"... we are body-spirits and the energies of desire permeate our being. The desires and longings which we have for what is beautiful, for what makes sense, for what is true, for what has value, and for what has ultimate value are at the heart of what it means to be human."
Winter greetings! We are pleased to announce our program for the coming months:
The Padua Dialogue presents... Canticle to the Cosmos
Tuesdays at 7:30pm ... January 12, 19, 26 and February 2, 9, 16
The second six (of 12) videos will be presented followed by discussion.
facilitated by: Clare Hallward and the Earth Dialogue team.
Cosmology is the study of the origin, the destiny and development of the universe
and the role of humanity within it. A new cosmic creation story is now being told,
an empirically-based account of an evolutionary process steeped in an extraordinary
dynamism of creativity. The urgency of finding a more adequate wisdom to heal our
traumatized planet and re-invent what it means to be human is passionately
emphasized by cosmologists Thomas Berry and Brian Swimme. As we reach for more
profound dimensions of meaning, a careful scientific account of evolution awakens
exciting new grounds for awe, curiosity, humility, connectedness, creativity, and
responsibility.
The cultural pathology of our age, Swimme suggests, in the Canticle to the Cosmos
video series, is the loss of sensitivity to the sacred dimension of life, the lack
of appreciation for the sheer "elegance that pervades everything." We do not see
what is in front of us. We are prisoners of an older story which has defined
energy as physicalistic rather than biospiritual, thus degrading matter, the earth,
our bodies. Our genuine growth lies in developing a feeling for the natural world,
and in coming to know ourselves as integral to web of life.

Padua, an urban spirituality center, is located in Little Burgundy in the heart of Montreal. The center welcomes persons from all ethnic and religious backgrounds. With its rich texture of multicultural diversity, Padua serves to awaken new spiritual imagination and vision to respond to the ever-changing conditions of modern life. Through promoting individual well-being, interpersonal harmony, social peace, and ecological integrity, Padua endeavors to embrace the complex challenges of our times.
The center, which is hosted by St. Anthony of Padua parish, began its programs in February 2005. Padua has a threefold focus: teaching different practices of meditation, creating an innovative forum for dialogue, and providing inner city youth outreach.
